Spotlight on Action for Sick Children

Action for Sick Children Helpline

The Action for Sick Children Helpline was set up 20 years ago. It is a freephone helpline and is manned from Monday to Friday 9.30am-4.30pm.

It is available for parents and carers and children and young people to use if you have a problem or query regarding your child's healthcare, from how to register your child with a GP to what to expect when they need to go into hospital.

Helpline Case Studies

A parent contacted the Helpline with huge concerns about an up-coming life saving operation that her child would be having. She didn't feel that the concerns and worries that she had about this procedure were being heard by her child's medical team. She wanted to put a stop to the operation until she had been given an opportunity to speak openly and freely with the medical team. Advice and support was offered to help this parent find a way that she could communicate with her child's medical team.

A young person contacted the Helpline with concerns about GP confidentiality with regards to her healthcare. Advice was given over the telephone and a copy of the Action for Sick Children 'Consenting to Treatment for Children and Young People' leaflet was sent to them.

If you would like to contact the Helpline please phone 0800 074 4519
